The times they are a-changin'..

Thinking about the Arab Spring, and the political state the world is in, I can't help but admire these interesting times, and maybe one of the most interesting-by-relevancy years I've ever lived. Sure, i came across years where things were on-going, but on this scale or intensity, and definitely not into the direction the world is heading in right now. The world is not pre-determined to a specific goal as it was before, because there's a new element added to the equation the world didn't think of.

Maybe because Social Media is becoming more and more connected that the effect is spreading to every coffee table. Or maybe it's just because 2011 is the year of the Arab Spring, and all the youth springs that came from its ripple effect. Or maybe it's about time people realized what's theirs, and are stepping up for the challenge of taking it back.

I sometimes think of those past years when the world felt like it's on a stand-still. Progress was heading in different directions, none seem to be in anyone's favor but a selected few. And the scenario, as diverse as it may seem, i believe it didn't change from the status quo of the past century: We're shipped as soldiers to war, or suppressed as a result of one.

The talk of a revolution that "changes everything" or "starts from scratch" was ridiculed and belittled, some even categorized it as "movie-inspired wishful thinking". The world saw the status quo as a constant factor. And we saw our leaders, our systems, our role on this very-loud planet, as they were we were mostly told. It's not going to change.

Little did the world know, a revolution was in the making..

It is true, to a certain extent, that the recent hype and attention to revolutions was sparked by Tunis. But what's unfolding is not "just" an arab spring, it's the coming-of-age, on a global scale, of a generation that won't settle for anything less than their rights. The rights that are given for free, shared universally between all ideologies and religions and creeds, but were taken with a cost they had to pay. And I believe that this drive-to-change was dormant, waiting for the right time and mind to activate.

No one can tell what's going to be next, or how successful will this push to change will be. One thing that you can tell, it's never going to be the same again. The causes are clear, and the hidden intentions of those trying to crush the change are getting clearer, and clearer

Some say it's the spiraling status of decaying politics.

Some say it's the social media pushing updates to our pockets.

Some say it's that last brain cell that decided to wake up, realized the mess, and basically had enough.

And of course, as it logically should be, many fear the change. And many decide to shoot down change as foolish, chaotic, and/or destructive. To them I say, go ahead..

Call it chaos, because it's only created because of the smoke-and-mirrors of failing/falling governments and the failed promises of impotent organizations..

Call it destruction, because it's seems to be brought by the resistance, not of the people, but of those who can't let go of the leashes they love to drag around..

The current state of media represents the ideals of an old society, a society that's going through a stiff dying phase with its hands frozen clinched over a flag that no one can relate to anymore. They'll use that media to sell their fiction as facts, but they're too ignorant to even realize that its our self-servicing grasp of social-media that's separating the fiction from fact.

The old world doesn't stand a chance anymore, and it either catches up, or gets caught up in its own belief that things will go back to the way it was before, or expose its true nature in the process.

Come senators, congressmen

Please heed the call

Don't stand in the doorway

Don't block up the hall

For he that gets hurt

Will be he who has stalled

There's a battle outside

And it is ragin'

It'll soon shake your windows

And rattle your walls

For the times they are a-changin'.

...

Come mothers and fathers

Throughout the land

And don't criticize

What you can't understand

Your sons and your daughters

Are beyond your command

Your old road is

Rapidly agin'

Please get out of the new one

If you can't lend your hand

For the times they are a-changin'.

~Bob Dylan, Times Are a-Changin'

Our parents gave us the Britannica Encyclopedia, yearly-adjusted, by a single authority. And we gave our kids a Wikipedia, always-adjusting, by everyone. In a way, we are the new world order, and it's only the beginning..
